Epica

Epica is a well-known Dutch symphonic metal band that has gained its inimitable popularity thanks to gentle female singing in a duet with hard bass grooling. Jokingly, the guys were compared to the characters of the Disney cartoon "Beauty and the Beast".
The epic group combined choral singing with bowed string instruments, which was a rarity in metal. In 2003, Mark Jansen brought the team together after leaving the old After Forever team. The guy was constantly interested in creativity and even launched a pilot site-project dedicated to music from films.
The name of the band was not invented by chance. After the release of the album "Epica" by the group "Camelot", it was decided to call the group just that. Also, epic is the name of one fictional place in the universe, in which one can find peace, get harmony and peace. The band's lyrical motives fit very well into this theme. Epica songs tried to convey to their listeners exactly the harmony and balance that interpreted this place.
Musicians such as Sluyter Ada, Yves Hoots, Janssen Kuhn and Ivan Hendrix began to join the group. The drummers did not stay long, and Liflang Dennis took the place of Hendrix, followed by Simons Jeroen. Carefully selecting the artists, Mark decided to replace the vocalist with Michalsen Helena, and soon made another replacement for Simone Simons.
The string orchestra consisted of a double bass, three flutes, two cellos and two violins.
The guys released their first album in June 2003 with the name "Phantom Agony", under the production of Sasha Poet, who had previously promoted the groups "Angra", "Rapsody of Fire" and "Camelot". The disc became incredibly popular, and the guys began to tour with a new program. The musicians attended such festivals as: "Wave Gothic Traffen" - Germany, "Graspop" - Belgium, "Rock the Nations" - Turkey.
In 2004, the team released their first DVD, which included a live recording from a record company. A year later, the next album "Consign to Oblivion" was released, which was created under the influence of the culture of the ancient Mayan civilization, and musical performers: Dani Elfman and Hans Zimmer.
In 2005, a disc was released, which was dedicated to soundtracks for films, which in turn was unusual for fans, but the fans of the group liked this experiment, and the devoted audience increased significantly.
After a short musical break, in March 2009 the guys returned to the studio and started recording fresh material. By the end of the year, the disc was already on the shelves of music stores and was successfully sold out. In September 2016, a new music collection of the group was released: "The Holographic Principle", which still hits the charts today. The musicians are constantly recording new songs and performing with a fresh program.
